How to collect data with JDoodle.ai and Zapier

Tyrel Nunes

Most founders think “collecting signups” means slapping a little Google or Microsoft Form on their website. That works… if you’re running a bake sale. But if you’re building something real? You’ll want something a bit more polished.

With JDoodle.ai, Zapier, and a humble Google Sheet, you can look like you’ve got a custom-coded backend without touching a single line of code. Here’s how it works.

Step 1: Build a Signup Form in JDoodle.ai

Open JDoodle.ai in your browser and type in the prompt the kind of sign up form you want. Try to be as specific as possible by adding your brand guidelines and the data you want to collect. And Voila! in about 30 seconds you’ve got yourself a decent looking subscription form. No CSS tantrums, no “why is the button neon green?” drama, just type what you want, hit enter, and boom: form. But you’re not done there…

Step 2: Get Your Zapier Webhook URL

Nice work! You’ve got yourself a great looking form. But a form without storage is like a mailbox with no house behind it (Don’t worry, JDoodle.ai’s built-in database is on the way). For now, you’ll need Zapier to stash your signups somewhere safe (and yes it’s GDPR compliant).

Zapier is basically the duct tape of the internet, it sticks different apps together so they play nice, kind of like lucid charts but for workflow. In our case, it’s how we funnel those new email addresses into a Google Sheet.

Here’s the play:

  • Head over to Zapier, click Create Zap.
  • Choose Webhooks by Zapier as the trigger.
  • Pick the Catch Hook option.
  • Skip the filler steps, and Zapier spits out a URL that looks like it belongs in a hacker movie. That’s your golden ticket.

Step 3: Connect JDoodle.ai to Zapier

Now you’ve got to tell JDoodle.ai where to send the data. Copy that webhook URL, paste it into JDoodle.ai’s chat, and ask it to send over “Name”/ “Email” or whatever data you want saved.

Hit enter. Test it. If Zapier says it caught something, congrats, you just taught two platforms to talk to each other.

Step 4: Funnel Signups into Google Sheets

A spreadsheet may not be glamorous, but it’s definitely reliable and frankly, it’s where most startups begin.

  • Add a Zapier Action step: “Create Spreadsheet Row.”
  • Pick your Drive, spreadsheet, and worksheet.
  • Map the fields (Name → Name column, Email → Email column).
  • Test it. Zapier should instantly drop your signup into its new row like a digital bouncer checking names at the door.

Step 5: Publish & Test Again

Back in JDoodle.ai, submit another test signup. Hop over to your Google Sheet, if a new row appears, you’re dialled. If it doesn’t, retrace your Zapier steps (webhook URL, field mapping, test trigger). Need a handrail? Watch the step-by-step video.

Why This Matters

This is the difference between looking like you hacked something together in a dorm room versus looking like you run an actual product. Customers don’t care that you didn’t write a backend in Python. They care that when they type in their email, it actually goes somewhere and maybe, just maybe, you’ll remember to follow up.

Key Steps

  • JDoodle.ai builds the form.
  • Zapier acts as the courier.
  • Google Sheets keeps the receipts.

It’s scrappy, it’s clean, and it makes you look 10x more legit than “DM me your email.”

FAQs

1. Do I need coding experience to set this up?
Nope. JDoodle.ai handles the form, Zapier connects the dots, and Google Sheets stores the info. If you can copy-paste a URL, you’re set.

2. Why not just use Google Forms?
You could, but JDoodle.ai makes a signup form look like part of your site, not like a school survey. Plus, you can connect it to anything, not just Sheets.

3. What happens if I get a lot of signups?
Google Sheets can handle thousands of rows, but if you start hitting serious traction, Zapier makes it easy to upgrade your workflow into tools like Airtable or a proper CRM.

4. Is Zapier free to use for this?
Yes. Catching hooks and sending data to Google Sheets can be done on Zapier’s free plan, unless you want extra options or features.

5. Can I customize the form fields?
Absolutely. JDoodle.ai can generate forms with whatever fields you need: name, email, phone number, favorite pizza topping - you name it.
